Swami's Cafe in Carlsbad is an absolute gem for breakfast. The portions are huge, and the menu is wonderfully eclectic, offering everything from smoothies and granola bowls to corned beef and stuffed French toast. During our visit, we had an amazing server named Celine, who made the experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere is so laid-back and chill—it's a must-try if you're in the area, and they have multiple locations to explore. While on our family-friendly vacation in Carlsbad, we truly made the best choice for breakfast at Swami's. The space is inviting, the service is top-notch, and the food is phenomenal. I had chilaquiles with green sauce, and they were the best I've ever had. My husband couldn't get enough of the chorizo breakfast burrito. Our 11-year-old loved the banana chocolate chip pancakes, claiming they were the best he's ever had, which is saying something! The Mickey Mouse pancake for kids was adorable, too. The food presentation was also impressive, especially for a quaint cafe. Our server, Luis, was fantastic—friendly and efficient, ensuring quick service. Plus, the outdoor seating option added to the relaxed vibe. Don't hesitate—make Swami's Cafe a must-stop spot. We will definitely be returning! Thanks, Swami's Cafe Carlsbad, for a delightful dining experience filled with great food, a relaxed atmosphere, and attentive service. Whether you're in the mood for fresh acai bowls, smoothies, or hearty breakfast burritos and sandwiches, this place delivers with quality ingredients and impressive flavors.

Don's Country Kitchen

I stopped by Don's Country Kitchen for breakfast in Carlsbad before heading to SeaWorld with the family and was genuinely impressed. The stuffed hash browns with mushrooms and white gravy, topped with an egg and avocado, were nothing short of amazing and a delightful first for me. My wife tried the seafood Benedict and couldn't stop raving about it. The service was excellent, and the prices were reasonable, which made the experience even better. This place really knows how to serve up hearty Midwest breakfast staples. The portions are generous and come out fast. I was craving biscuits and gravy, and they did not disappoint. I also ordered online once and was thrilled with the whole experience—the fries were hot, the fruit was fresh, and the club sandwich was the best I've tried. Overall, Don's Country Kitchen exceeded my expectations, and we plan on coming back for more delicious meals.

Brunch at Broken Yolk Cafe in Carlsbad was amazing; my family and I really enjoyed it. The breakfast choices are fantastic, and the atmosphere is great for families. While it took a bit longer to get my latte than I'd like, the food and service made up for it. The place is clean, and the waiters are diligent. I love that you can join the wait-list in advance so our table was ready when we arrived. I ordered the Sope Benedict, and my friend tried the Mom omelet. The Benedict was okay, though it could use a bit more kick. The portion sizes are generous, which was perfect since I ended up having leftovers for lunch and dinner. My friend enjoyed her omelet. The hash browns were also okay. I tried the Mimosa flight, and I appreciated the strong champagne ratio, especially the lemon and orange mimosas. The Matcha Green Tea Latte was delicious, perfectly sweet with a balanced matcha flavor. It's definitely something I'd order again. Our server was friendly and attentive, even though the place was quite loud. There's plenty of parking available, which is always a plus. Overall, despite wishing they didn't use soybean oil, I highly recommend Broken Yolk Cafe for a great breakfast experience! 😊

My husband and I had a fantastic breakfast at Broken Yolk Cafe in Carlsbad. Nayo was our server, and he was attentive and kind, offering great menu suggestions that did not disappoint. Our food was delicious and arrived quickly, making for a perfect experience. We also had a wonderful encounter with Thomas B., who was friendly and efficient, ensuring our meals were hot and flavorful. The cafe offers a wide variety of menu options, and the service was polite and respectful despite the popularity of the place. Expect a bit of a wait during peak times, but it’s worth it. On another visit, Suzie impressed us with her knowledge of the menu and her excellent service, keeping my husband's coffee hot and full. Overall, we were really impressed with our time at Broken Yolk Cafe and will definitely return when we're in the area.
Burger Lounge

During our vacation, we stopped by Burger Lounge in Carlsbad and were thrilled with what we found. This spot truly offers great value for your money. We savored every bite of their delicious burgers, fries, and shakes. It was a delightful surprise to discover that they also serve salads, which were absolutely yummy. They had a special deal with five different items for just $5, offering huge savings and fantastic value. One of my top picks is their half-and-half combo – a generous serving of onion rings and French fries, all perfectly cooked to order. You have to try it; you’ll love it! The sandwiches and salads are both tasty and affordable. We first stumbled upon this place a few years ago while looking for a quick bite, and it was fantastic. Now, whenever we're in the Carlsbad area, we make it a point to stop by. Everything about the burgers is excellent! The Happy Hour special, offering half off Chicken & Sides from 3-5 pm on weekdays, is a must-try. The food is incredibly delicious, especially the Grilled Chicken Deluxe sandwiches that are packed with fresh lettuce and tomatoes. The milkshakes are a real treat, extra creamy and delicious. The staff is friendly and efficient, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. Although they initially missed one of our sides, they more than made up for it with extra onion rings, showcasing great service recovery. I’d definitely give this place a five-star rating. Its convenient location next to Costco off Palomar Airport Road makes it even more accessible. Highly recommended! The team went above and beyond, checking in to see if we needed anything else. The mushroom aioli was a highlight for me, adding great flavor. I’ve been to other locations, but this one stands out for its efficiency and friendliness.

Stopped by Ruby's Diner in Carlsbad with the family after a day at Legoland, and it was such a great choice. Initially, we just wanted our water bottles filled, but the diner looked so cool that we decided to stay and try it out. The interior with the model train and airplane was fascinating, adding to the fun experience. Our server Sarah was fantastic—super friendly and had a great vibe. I ordered pancakes with scrambled eggs and potatoes for breakfast, and it was really good. My friend wanted lunch and opted for the Impossible burger with onion rings, which she loved. She also tried crispy green beans, which were tasty, though we noticed a bit of red cabbage at the bottom of the container—an odd detail. Despite that, everything was delicious, and the real strawberry lemonade was refreshing. The Hickory Burger I had was huge and flavorful, with tons of fries. The prices were a bit on the high side, but the quality of food and service made it worth it. We left satisfied and happy, and I'd definitely recommend Ruby's for any meal. It was an awesome dining experience, and if we're ever in the area again, we’ll be back for sure!

Swami's Cafe Encinitas 101

Swami's Cafe on Encinitas 101 is a true gem for breakfast lovers. Whenever I'm in the area, this is my go-to spot, and for good reason. The vibe here is chill and inviting, perfect for a leisurely morning meal. The menu offers a great variety, and while not every dish hits the mark, there are standout items that I can't get enough of. The chilaquiles are fantastic, packed with flavor, and the veggie omelette is just as impressive. Both dishes come in hearty portions, so I often have enough for another meal later in the day. I love the wide selection of coffees, including organic options, which pair perfectly with the beachy atmosphere. The outdoor seating is a bonus, especially when the weather is nice. Despite living in Vista where there's another Swami's, this original location just feels different and special. It's consistently good and keeps me coming back. If you're anywhere near San Diego or traveling through to L.A., stopping by Swami's Cafe in Encinitas for breakfast is a must. It's a bustling spot on Sunday mornings, which speaks to the quality and popularity of the food. Can't wait for my next visit!

Everbowl in Carlsbad has quickly become my favorite spot for breakfast in North County. Their "create your own" option is fantastic and really gives you your money's worth. The bases are delicious, and they even let you sample them before deciding. The "Berry^2" bowl is a massive hit in our household; it's flavorful and perfect for sharing. The service is consistently excellent, with the staff being both friendly and efficient. Although parking can be a bit tricky, with limited accessible spots near the store, the quality of the food more than makes up for it. I did experience a small hiccup when they ran out of acai and spoons, which was unexpected, but the employee's kindness turned it around. One thing to bear in mind is that this location doesn't accept cash, so make sure to have a card handy. Despite minor inconveniences, the overall experience and taste keep me coming back for more.

Hyatt Place San Diego/Vista-Carlsbad

I stayed at Hyatt Place San Diego/Vista-Carlsbad for four nights in August 2024, and overall, it was a decent experience with some room for improvement. The hotel is conveniently located near Legoland and various shops and eateries, which made getting around easy. Free parking and breakfast were a nice touch, and we enjoyed the pool during our stay. However, there were a couple of issues that could enhance the guest experience if addressed. The pool area often lacked towels, which led to some wet and slippery areas, particularly in the hallways and elevator. A regular restocking of pool towels would be a simple fix. During breakfast, the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. There were long lines, and food items like potatoes tended to run out frequently, leading to waits. A more attentive and courteous approach from the breakfast staff could make mornings more pleasant. The room itself was fine but showed signs of wear and tear, and the layout was a bit awkward with the sink outside the bathroom. Housekeeping only managed to take out the trash once during our weeklong stay, and towels were scarce. It felt like the hotel might have been understaffed. Despite these flaws, the hotel's location and amenities were convenient for our trip. Addressing the issues mentioned could definitely enhance future stays.

Press Juicery in Carlsbad is a fantastic spot for a healthy and refreshing breakfast. They offer a variety of bottled grab-and-go options that are super convenient. While the prices aren't cheap, the quality and taste of the juices are top-notch. Hailey, in particular, provides excellent service and truly goes above and beyond. It's clear she plays a vital role in maintaining a positive experience for customers. Despite a few challenges with staffing, which led to a longer wait time during my visit, the team did their best to keep things moving. I really appreciated the extra shot they offered to make up for the wait. Overall, the place offers a good atmosphere for anyone looking to enjoy delicious and nutritious juices.

Following an afternoon excursion, I took my mom for a bite to eat at Denny’s in Carlsbad. She was craving a burger, and we knew Denny’s makes good food. I ordered the Big Bird sandwich with Swiss cheese, tomato, turkey, and lettuce on grilled Artisan bread—it was delicious! My mom opted for the Bacon Cheeseburger. Both meals came with huge fries that made our mouths water, and they did not disappoint. Our waitress, Cebria, was attentive and thoughtful, bringing extra napkins without us even having to ask. That's what I call service! The restaurant was spacious and clean, and we appreciated the roominess of the oversized booth, which gave us plenty of space while eating. The food was tasty and plentiful, all for a reasonable price. We've also enjoyed Sunday breakfasts here with our family. I recommend trying the senior omelet or the stuffed French Toast. This Denny's location is our favorite—the staff and service are always kind and efficient. The food consistently arrives fresh and hot. Jeremiah, our server today, made sure we were well taken care of, ensuring our coffee was topped off and orange juice refreshed. The atmosphere at this Denny’s is clean and comforting, with a bit of an old-school vibe. The coffee, though a bit pricier now at $3.99, was freshly made and really good. This location offers reliable quality food and consistent, excellent service. While there are some menu items to avoid, like the nachos, overall, it’s a great place for a meal.

Overall, Panera Bread offers a positive breakfast experience that keeps me coming back.

I walked into the Chipotle Mexican Grill in Carlsbad right after a huge group of football players from La Costa Canyon, expecting a long wait. To my surprise, Victor and Fernando were incredibly efficient, and we didn't have to wait for long at all. I was there with a friend and our kids, who ended up making quite the mess. When I offered to clean it up myself, Victor and Fernando kindly refused, insisting they would take care of it. Their kindness and helpfulness made a big impression on me. I've visited this location before, but this was the first time the service was exceptional enough to make me want to write a review.
Holiday Inn Express & Suites San Diego-Escondido
1250 W Valley Pkwy, Escondido
(760) 741-7117
Michael Schulze
Staying at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites San Diego-Escondido was a disappointing experience for me. Initially, I appreciated the hotel’s willingness to accommodate my need to change booking dates due to business requirements. They verbally agreed to allow me to use the credit from my original booking on future stays. However, when I attempted to use this credit on my next trip, the hotel refused, claiming they don't allow such changes. The staff member I spoke to even denied ever making that agreement, which left me feeling frustrated and misled, resulting in the loss of four nights’ accommodation. The hotel seems to cater mostly to holidaymakers, with a lot of noise from children running around the breakfast room and guests using their phones on speaker. This made for a less-than-relaxing environment. The room itself was decent, though small and right next to the elevator, which meant a constant stream of noise from guests passing by, along with the sound of highway traffic and nearby fast food joints. The noise shielding leaves much to be desired. On a positive note, the breakfast offered a variety of options and was one of the highlights of my stay. The pool was nice, and the hotel's location is excellent, with many restaurants and amenities close by. Some staff members were friendly and helpful, which was appreciated. However, as a frequent business traveler and IHG member, I expect a certain standard of service and amenities. Unfortunately, this hotel did not meet those expectations, leaving me reluctant to stay here again. I would advise fellow business travelers to consider other options in the area.

Everbowl in Carlsbad is a breakfast spot that I really enjoy. The food here is fresh and delicious, and I find myself craving their WhatEver Bowl all the time. It’s the perfect combination with an Acai base, blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, goji berries, cacao nibs, bee pollen, and honey. It's truly a perfect start to the day! The Pitaya Wonder Smoothie is another favorite of mine; it's very refreshing. I believe having an Everbowl each week is a great way to treat your body to nutritious goodness. The staff at Everbowl have been helpful, especially when I was new, guiding me through the menu. They explained everything well, and now I feel like an expert. While there have been moments when things didn't go perfectly, the quality of the food keeps me coming back.

I had a pleasant stay at the Days Inn by Wyndham Carlsbad. The room was spacious, very clean, and comfortable. The beds and pillows provided a good night's sleep, and the AC kept the room perfectly cool throughout the night. Although the hotel is next to the freeway, the noise wasn't much of an issue on our side, and we didn't experience any discomfort from outside sounds. The staff was friendly and helpful; they even assisted me with signing up for the rewards program, which I appreciated. Checking in had a bit of confusion with a different credit card, but the service was accommodating. I'm counting on my points transferring over with the help of the staff. Regarding breakfast, the offering was quite minimal, just juice and packaged danishes. While I was hoping for a little more variety, such as some yogurt or fruit, it still sufficed for a quick start to the day. For those who prefer a heartier breakfast, it's a good idea to plan ahead and perhaps pick up something to keep in the room’s fridge. Overall, if you need a place to rest without needing extensive amenities, this hotel fits the bill. Just be sure to plan breakfast elsewhere if you're looking for more than a quick snack.

I stopped by Chipotle Mexican Grill in Carlsbad for breakfast, and my experience was disappointing. It was Sunday at 3 pm, and only two employees were working, which led to slow service. The drink stations were out of lemonade, and all we had was water. This seems to be a regular issue with Chipotle lately. The portions have noticeably shrunk, and my bowl was one of the saddest I've seen. I felt bad for the employees who seemed overwhelmed, but it appears that corporate is more focused on short-term gains rather than long-term quality and service. On my first visit for a burrito, the wait was 30 minutes because the employees were chatting instead of attending to customers. Even when I ordered online, my requests were ignored; I ended up with incorrect ingredients and missing items. The chicken portion was minimal, leaving me frustrated. For a place located in Southern California, you would expect better Mexican cuisine. An order my colleagues and I placed was $111 for four people, mainly due to DoorDash fees. The food we received did not match what we ordered. Missing items like sauces, chips, and veggies made the meal subpar. I had to go back to the restaurant to get a refund, turning a delivery order into a pickup hassle. One positive was a young employee who remade the entire order. Though I only asked for my meal to be replaced, he took the initiative to fix everything. The manager, however, wasn’t available to discuss the issues, which was disappointing. Overall, it was a frustrating experience. The only saving grace was the young employee’s willingness to help. Despite his efforts, the overall experience was poor.

After considering several extended-stay options in the north county area, I chose Extended Stay America - San Diego - Carlsbad Village by the Sea. The decision was easy, thanks to the exceptional personal attention and bright, friendly demeanor of Marisol Mujica. Since April, I've had the chance to observe her dedication to her job and the care she provides to guests and her staff. Her commitment is truly impressive, and she always fulfills her promises promptly. I'm grateful to have her leading the team here. During my stay, I've also noticed Marisol's supportive mentorship toward new employees like Elizabeth Blossom. It's inspiring to see such effective leadership in action. Marisol is undoubtedly one of the best assets to this hotel. The atmosphere here is welcoming, and the staff is consistently cheerful and attentive. The overall business environment feels well-managed and pleasant. Marisol and her team's excellent service have made my extended stay a positive experience.

My family and I have been staying at Days Inn by Wyndham Encinitas Moonlight Beach for years whenever we visit family in Carlsbad. It's one of the better budget-friendly hotels in the area. The location is fantastic, with just a short walk to the beach, which we always enjoy. The management and staff, including the cleaning team, are personable and professional, always making us feel welcome. While prices do rise during summer vacation, the staff more than makes up for it with their excellent service. I was greeted by the lovely Shannon at the front desk, who let me pick my room preference. The hotel is very clean, and the pool is a nice touch. Its convenient location came in handy when I had an emergency and needed to get to the hospital, just three minutes away. The rooms aren't brand new, but they are clean and neat. Plus, breakfast is included, which is a nice perk. The receptionists, both day and night, were courteous and helpful throughout our stay. Overall, considering the budget rate and the level of service, this hotel meets my expectations for a Wyndham property.
