Ray's Diner

Ray's Diner is truly an outstanding spot for breakfast in Elgin. This charming place, open since 1969, delivers an authentic diner vibe with lightning-fast service and a genuinely kind staff. Every meal I've had here has been delicious, and I can confidently say it's my favorite breakfast spot. Their banana milkshake, made with real bananas, is a must-try—it's delicious! The vegetable soup, Reuben, and breakfast options are all top-notch. My son, who is only eight, devoured the enormous Belgian waffle topped with ice cream and whipped cream. The diner is always bustling, filled with diners nearly every day of the week. The staff, regardless of their role, are consistently friendly and efficient. It's a local favorite for a reason, with homemade menu selections and breakfast served all day alongside great lunch options. We sampled the eggs Benedict with hash browns and the chicken fried steak platter, which also came with hash browns and a side of French toast. The portions were generous, and everything was delicious. Stumbling upon Ray's Diner was a delightful experience. Despite being incredibly busy, the staff managed everything smoothly, and the quality of the food showed why it's such a popular place. I highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for a fantastic breakfast experience.

Country Donuts

Lina Robinson
Country Donuts truly offers the best donuts I've ever tasted. I've tried donuts all over the U.S., and nothing compares to the quality and taste of Country Donuts. I used to be a fan of Dunkin', but after discovering Country Donuts, there's no going back. These donuts are the kind you dream about, and if true love were a donut, it would be from here. They far surpass the chain store across the street. The hand-made breakfast sandwiches are another highlight, especially the apple fritters, which are huge. Make sure to bring your appetite and grab a cup of coffee to balance out the sweetness. The coffee selection isn't as extensive as a dedicated coffee shop, but it pairs perfectly with the food. It was my first visit, so I asked a few questions about the menu. I added a sandwich to my order at the drive-through, and while the service needs improvement—specifically the attitude at the window—the quality of the food truly stands out. Watching them make donuts through the kitchen window is a treat, especially for the kids. Prices are reasonable, and while I had a hiccup with service, the exceptional quality of the donuts makes Country Donuts a local favorite you shouldn't miss.

SYRUP - Algonquin

On a busy Saturday morning around 11:30am, we waited about 30 minutes to be seated at SYRUP - Algonquin for breakfast in Elgin. The wait was well-managed with a prompt text notification once our table was ready, and from then on, everything moved smoothly. Our server, Jackson, was quick to greet us with a smile, taking our drink orders right away. The beverages arrived swiftly, and our food orders were placed soon after. The highlight of my visit was the food, which was hot, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. The Nova Benny with loaded potatoes was a standout dish that I can't stop thinking about – it was one of the best I've had in a while! The menu is extensive, which is exciting because it means there are plenty of options to try on future visits. The atmosphere of the place was cozy and comforting, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing breakfast. The staff were friendly and attentive, particularly Tansey, whose warm personality and excellent service made the experience even better. Meeting one of the managers, David, was a bonus, as he was very approachable and friendly. Despite a minor issue with a coffee mug, everything else was top-notch. The portions are generous and reasonably priced, which is always appreciated. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to explore more of the menu. Overall, SYRUP is a 10/10 breakfast spot!
Cinnamon Pancake House

Cinnamon Pancake House is a fantastic spot for breakfast in Elgin. The Cinnamon Pancakes are hands down the best I've ever tasted, so good that they didn't even need syrup. We also tried the Biscuits and Gravy, and they were spot on. The biscuits were perfectly fluffy, and the gravy was just the right consistency. I've heard the pizza is amazing too, so I'm looking forward to trying that soon. The place has a cozy vibe with a cool brick bar area, and the TVs are a nice touch for its size. The staff is very attentive, and although the service could use a bit more friendliness upon entry, once seated, everything goes smoothly. The menu offers a great variety, and the restaurant is clean. Besides the standout pancakes, the coffee, French toast, sausage patties, bacon, and pumpkin pancakes were all excellent. The hash browns could use a little more seasoning and time on the grill, but that's a minor issue. Overall, the food presentation is great, and it always makes me hesitant to dig in—which results in a clean plate after every meal. The welcoming environment and unbeatable prices keep me coming back multiple times a week. It's a great place to satisfy any breakfast craving.
Al's Cafe & Creamery

Al's Cafe & Creamery is an amazing place to grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner in Elgin. I started with the Swiss mushroom burger and the blue cheese burger, both of which were fantastic. The fries are perfect for dipping in their delicious shake, which is a must-try combo. I can't wait to come back in the summer. During a dinner with friends, we kicked off with some wine and cocktails along with Cajun meatballs and spinach artichoke dip. The Cajun meatballs, especially with the goat cheese, were a highlight. For the main course, I had the Danish bleu steak cooked medium rare, and it was excellent. It came with homemade mashed potatoes, veggies, and red cabbage, and I opted for the cream of broccoli soup, which was outstanding. The service was stellar, with our server being attentive and even offering to take a group photo. The atmosphere perfectly complemented the excellent food. The carrot bisque soup was smooth, and the schnitzel and spaetzle were the best I've had. Hats off to the chef for mastering the flavors so well. For a lunch visit, I enjoyed half a sandwich and soup, which was just the right size and full of flavor. The ice cream was incredible, though it left me quite full, so I recommend saving room for it. The soda fountain offers a rare treat with a refreshing cherry coke. Al's is a gem, and if you haven't tried it yet, you're truly missing out on an exceptional dining experience.

We travel a lot for my daughter's ice hockey and always seek out local diners for breakfast. This one stands out as one of the most efficiently run diners we've visited. The staff was super friendly on both days we were there, and the food was very good. It was prepared and brought to our table so quickly I thought it might be someone else's order. A great spot for breakfast, I must say. Most of the employees spoke Spanish, which added a welcoming vibe. Our server was friendly, though she occasionally forgot about us, making it a bit challenging to get her attention, which was surprising since it wasn't busy. I ordered the skirt steak skillet. The coffee was great, the overall service was commendable, and the place was clean and cozy. However, the hash browns were a bit bland, lacking seasoning, and tasted uncooked. The steak was just okay, and it arrived remarkably fast, within five minutes. It came with French toast, which I prefer plain to taste its quality, and it mainly tasted like eggs, missing any sweetness or spice. I used a coupon from the Entertainment app during our visit. While the food was okay, and our waitress was outstanding, I faced an issue when paying. The coupon wouldn't load due to connectivity problems, and the owner was not accommodating, treating the situation with unnecessary suspicion. I paid the full bill and, because of that experience, I'm unlikely to return. Nonetheless, the efficient service and friendly staff make it a decent option for a quick breakfast.

Big Apple Bagels in Elgin is my go-to spot for breakfast, and it's easily the best bagel place I've ever visited. The bagels are top-notch, and the coffee is really great too. The atmosphere is perfect for a quick breakfast, with a clean environment and fast service. The staff are incredibly friendly and handle even the busiest times efficiently. Living just a block away, I've become a regular, and this place keeps me coming back for more. Their menu is fantastic, and I'm particularly fond of the veggie cream cheese. They also have a wonderful muffin collection worth trying. Whether you're stopping by for a quick bite or planning a leisurely breakfast, this place has everything you need. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend checking it out!

On Mother's Day, I visited Alexander's Cafe 64 for breakfast in Elgin, and it was a delightful experience. We hardly had to wait, which was a pleasant surprise given the occasion. Although our server missed us at first, she quickly made up for it by being attentive and checking in consistently. The food was served promptly – the kids enjoyed their pancakes, I had perfectly poached eggs on avocado toast, and my wife had a skillet, which was tasty, though the hash browns could have been crispier. The menu offered a variety of classic cafe options, all done very well. We were seated right away, and the parking behind the restaurant was convenient. I especially enjoyed the broccoli cheese soup and appreciated the thoughtful presentation of the hot tea with honey and lemon on a bamboo tray. The mimosas were excellent, and the service was friendly and unrushed, even as we lingered over the menu. Overall, Alexander's Cafe 64 is a perfect spot for breakfast or brunch. I even brought a group of girlfriends for brunch recently, and we all loved it. The food was some of the best I've had, both in quality and quantity. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning.

Briana's Pancake House in Elgin serves up some seriously delicious breakfast dishes. The pancakes are absolutely fantastic, and the hash browns hit that perfect level of crunchiness. While the service was a bit slow, the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience enjoyable. The food came out quickly, which was a plus, but I found the portion size of my skillet to be smaller than expected for the price. The ham was a bit gristly for my taste, affecting both the omelet and the other dishes it accompanied. On the bright side, the waffles and French toast were impressive. Overall, the food tastes good, so it's worth a visit for those standout pancakes and attentive service.

I had a fantastic breakfast experience at Alexander's Cafe in Elgin. The food was excellent, with a standout option of roasted potatoes instead of the usual shredded hashbrowns. I tried the Biscuit Love, and it was delightful. The chicken tenders were juicy and full of flavor. I also sampled the turkey sausage from my friend's avocado toast, and it was the best I've ever had—I'm convinced it must be homemade. This morning, I had a great breakfast at Randall's Pancake House in Elgin with a group of friends. We weren't in a rush, but I was glad to see that the service was prompt. The wait staff was attentive, topping off our coffee regularly, even though the place was busy. The food was delicious and came out quickly, in less than 10 minutes. I had buttermilk pancakes, eggs, and a hot chocolate, while my husband enjoyed chocolate chip pancakes, eggs, and sausages. Our daughter loved her chicken tender meal. The portions were large, and the comfort food was just what we were in the mood for. I did notice that the water and coffee had a bit of an off taste, which could be improved with better filtration. Also, the atmosphere felt a little lifeless, with yellowish walls and old maroon booths, and the prices were a tad high for diner food. But honestly, the taste and quality of the food and service made it worth it. I've got to give a shoutout to the patty melt—it was cooked perfectly. And if you're planning on visiting, come hungry—the apple pancake is enormous, enough for four people. This place is one of our favorites, and despite the always-busy weekend crowd, it never disappoints. We'll definitely be back.

Sweet Berry Cafe in Elgin is a bustling spot perfect for breakfast enthusiasts and families. It’s lively with the cheerful sounds of children, adding a charming vibe even if it gets a bit noisy. Despite a couple of minor hiccups, like my missing bacon and syrup, the quality and portions of the food made up for it. Their waffles are top-notch, and the carnitas were incredible—honestly, the best I've ever had! The cafe is beautifully decorated, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. Our waitress was delightful and friendly, enhancing our dining experience. While there was a small issue with rock-hard potatoes on the senior special, I appreciated the proactive approach of the manager, even if she came off a bit brusque. The rest of the staff was warm and welcoming, and the service was personal and attentive. Sweet Berry Cafe is a gem in Elgin, a place you’ll want to visit again and again. If you’re in town, I highly recommend stopping by for a wonderful breakfast experience. Five stars from me!

Mr. Breakfast in Elgin is a gem for breakfast lovers. The eggs are consistently cooked to medium perfection, exactly how I like them, and the potatoes remind me of the way my dad used to fry them. The biscuits and gravy are a must-try, with the biscuit nearly filling the entire plate and smothered in rich country gravy. On my visits, the service has been fantastic. Melissa, the server, was particularly outstanding and her recommendations were spot on. The skirt steak was cooked perfectly, a feat not every place achieves, and the fried chicken with gravy was delicious. What took my experience to the next level was the chorizo gravy—it was unique and absolutely mind-blowing. This place has a warm, family-owned atmosphere that makes you want to sit, relax, and enjoy your meal without feeling rushed. Despite a minor hiccup with a smoothie order once, I find the overall experience so enjoyable that it’s easy to overlook. Mr. Breakfast is definitely a must-go place, and I’m looking forward to returning soon.

Golden Skillet is truly a hidden gem near downtown Elgin! The service was fantastic, and the flavors of the food were outstanding. The balance on the skillet was perfect. If you're on the fence after scrolling through reviews, take this as your cue to give it a try. The old-fashioned diner vibe brought back fond childhood memories for me. The staff was friendly, attentive, and efficient. The eggs Benedict were delicious, and I'm definitely planning on returning. While the food might not be groundbreaking, it’s consistently good. What really sets Golden Skillet apart is the feeling of being at home the moment you walk in. The workers are incredibly kind and caring, always ensuring your drinks are topped off and the food meets expectations. The prices are a great deal, though I did notice that the prime rib is precooked and reheated. The atmosphere is wonderfully nostalgic, like stepping back into the 70s. Overall, I left very satisfied and already looking forward to my next visit!

Eggholic - Indian Veg & Egg Street Food in Elgin is a fantastic spot for breakfast or any meal. From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed by a friendly and helpful staff who made ordering a breeze. The place has a great vibe, and it's easy to see why it's a local favorite. I started with the Paneer Bhurji and bread, and it was amazing. The flavors were spot on, and the freshly baked bread was the perfect accompaniment. Next, I tried the Amdavadi Touch sandwich. It came with a packet of Lays and ketchup, which added a nice crunch and tanginess to the meal. While the Paneer Bhurji was the star, the sandwich was still a satisfying choice. The Mango Lassi was a standout. It was rich, creamy, and full of tropical flavor, making it a refreshing complement to the spicier dishes. I also tried the Chicken Masala sandwich, and the crisp bread and veggie fillings were delightful, especially with the tangy ketchup. On the side, I sampled the samosa chaat and surti gotalo. The samosa chaat had a generous portion with various veggies, adding great texture and flavor. The surti gotalo, served with roti, was good, but the fried eggs on top were the highlight for me. The restaurant has plenty of seating, and its location in the Patel Brothers plaza means it's popular, especially on weekends. It's fantastic that they're open late, making it convenient for a late-night craving. The staff was incredibly helpful and explained the different spice levels and dish options. Whether you're vegetarian or enjoy chicken, there's something here for everyone. The food was delicious, filling, and authentic. I can't wait to return with my family. If you love Indian cuisine, you must visit this place. You won't be disappointed!

We came here on a Sunday for breakfast without a reservation, and I'm so glad we did. We chose this spot randomly, and it turned out to be a great decision. We found a nice outdoor table by the water, which was perfect since we had our pup with us. The food arrived quickly, and everything was delicious. There’s plenty of parking, making it convenient. Sitting outside was peaceful, and the service was excellent. The prices were reasonable, considering the portion sizes and quality. Definitely one of the best breakfast spots in the area! The menu is impressive, with creative Ghirardelli-infused items like coffees, shakes, crepes, and pancakes. You really can’t go wrong with any choice. I had the Denver skillet, and my husband tried the ribeye breakfast. Both dishes were fantastic. The vanilla latte was the best I've had in a while, and the fresh orange juice was delightful. If you're searching for a great breakfast place, this is it. There were lots of families around, and it seemed like a popular spot for kids too. The staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome. We even met the owner, who was lovely. Overall, a wonderful place with great food and warm hospitality.

What a neat place! From the moment you drive up to Maple and Hash, you’re greeted by a charming and inviting atmosphere. The decor is lovely, and the cute coffee bar inside adds a special touch. When we arrived around 10:30 with a party of five, we were seated immediately. The staff was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The menu offers a great selection of items and drinks. I enjoyed a latte, while my sister tried the Cinnamon Roll coffee – both were very good! We each ordered something different, and everyone was happy with their choices. My Garden Skillet was perfect, with eggs cooked just right and seasoned potatoes that were crisp and flavorful. I love that this place feels homey, especially with the LED signs featuring cute phrases. Monse, one of the staff members, was especially attentive and personable. She made a delicious suggestion that I try the Maple and Hash shaken espresso, and it did not disappoint. On my first visit, I was craving pancakes and went for the Cinnamon Roll pancakes. They were the fluffiest, most delicious pancakes I’ve had in a long time. Definitely a spot worth visiting again, and although it can get a bit loud when busy, it’s a nice place to work or relax when it quiets down. On a more recent visit, we enjoyed the iced shaken espresso, avocado toast trio, breakfast quesadilla, and garden omelette. The portions were generous, and the food was freshly prepared. While there were a few minor issues, like the French Toast not meeting expectations, I still see great potential here. Overall, I highly recommend checking out Maple and Hash if you’re in the area. It’s a delightful spot for breakfast or brunch, and I look forward to returning soon.

We had breakfast at Tasty Biscuit Pancake House in St. Charles, and I was blown away! It was our first visit, and I left thoroughly impressed with both the food and service. I ordered the Sweet Baby, one of their signature dishes, and it was incredible. The portion was generous, with perfectly scrambled eggs and flavorful meat that made every bite enjoyable. Our server was attentive and sweet, offering great recommendations throughout our meal. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making the experience even better. My salted caramel latte was fantastic, and my partner's smoothie was just as delightful. We took our granddaughter there for her birthday breakfast, and she was thrilled with the array of choices. There was plenty of food, and the portions were generous enough for leftovers. Our grandson's omelet was hilariously big, almost bigger than his head! Overall, it was one of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time, and we can't wait to return. If you get a chance to visit Tasty Biscuit Pancake House, do it—you won't be disappointed!

What a great place. Our server was amazing, checking on us frequently while managing other tables with ease. The atmosphere was phenomenal. It was too cold to eat on the patio overlooking the water, but I definitely plan to come back next spring or summer to enjoy that view. The pizza was delicious, and our drinks were even better. We enjoyed the outside seating right by the water, which had both shady and sunny sections. We sat in the shady area, and it felt great—the sun wasn't too blinding or hot, and there were no bugs. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees, and everything was delicious. I swapped out mashed potatoes for pasta with my meal, and it was a great choice. The food was very good. Finally trying this place for dinner, we were happy with all our food choices. The cheesy bread was delicious, and the pizza was solid. My wrap was a bit bland but packed with chicken, which was exactly what I wanted. Thank you, Christina, for taking excellent care of us. We came in hungry and exhausted from our move, and your sweet disposition made our experience even better. The food was absolutely delicious.
