The Posh Bagel
1687 Industrial Pkwy W, Hayward
(510) 785-9988
Eugene Hadzismajlovic
Lox! Soooo good! I had an amazing breakfast at The Posh Bagel in Hayward. The staff was fast and friendly, and the prices were great for such fresh food. I tried the lox on sourdough, and it was perfect—slightly chewy and tangy outside, soft inside, with delicious lox and ingredients. Served with chips, it made for a delightful meal. The croissants are huge and buttery, and next time, I have to try the Jalapeño bagel dog—it looked amazing! The bagels are fresh with great ingredients. There's a parking lot, though it can get full, but the pleasant counter staff will help you with any questions. Sodas are available in the refrigerator case. We’re around Hayward for some errands, so checking out local spots has been a treat. The Posh Bagel is a gem. Both my friend and I enjoyed the salmon and lox on an everything bagel. Crunchy on the outside, soft inside, and so fresh. It’s a business worth supporting, with fair prices. For delivery, I had a turkey avocado melt with American cheese on a bagel and a plain bagel with cream cheese. I devoured them before remembering to take a picture—let's just say they were tasty and filling. I highly recommend The Posh Bagel. The presentation is nice, portion sizes are generous, and the prices are decent.
Pampas Cafe
22222 Redwood Rd, Castro Valley
(510) 359-9339
Talal Morales
I visited Pampas Cafe for a light brunch on a Saturday around 1:30 PM and was pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. Although the cafe is small, with seating for about 20 people, it has a cozy corner featuring leather couches and a piano. This adds a warm, inviting touch to the atmosphere. I ordered four empanadas—beef, chicken, mushroom, and spinach—and a latte plus a cappuccino. The empanadas are preheated in a warmer box near the counter. Given that we arrived near closing time, some empanadas were sold out or required baking, which would take 15-20 minutes. I opted for the available ones, and I was glad I did. The empanadas were flaky, generously filled, and each had a clever design with letters to identify the filling inside. The coffee was superb, served in ceramic cups with beautifully crafted milk art. It complemented the food perfectly. I was so impressed with the empanadas that I ended up purchasing a dozen to take home, and they even offered a 10% discount for larger orders. The beef and mushroom ones were my favorites. Parking is conveniently along the side with marked spaces, and Trader Joe's is next door, which is helpful. The staff was friendly, and the whole place had a welcoming vibe. The owner’s Argentinian roots shine through in the style of the coffee and the artisanal quality of the empanadas. All of these elements combined make Pampas Cafe a must-visit spot. I look forward to returning and trying more of their delicious offerings.
PEARL'S
26775 Hayward Blvd, Hayward
(510) 363-8336
Boni King-Smith
Must stop by! Aunty Pearl's is a go-to spot in Hayward, CA. The grilled salmon and chicken BBQ sticks are fantastic. The coffee is really good, and the owners are super nice and friendly. I highly recommend their iced matcha and iced mocha; they taste homemade and are absolutely delicious. The place is always nice and cozy, and they greet you with a smile, making you feel like family. They have decent coffee and some pretty good waffles. I highly recommend this local cafe. We aren't from the area, and the hotel we stayed at didn’t have breakfast or coffee, so we looked up breakfast near us and decided to try it. Everything seems very reasonably priced. My husband had the lox bagel and said it was amazing. I ordered an iced white mocha, and I have to say, I think it’s better than Starbucks! I wish we had one of these back where I’m from; I’d be here almost every day if I could!
Amy's Grill & Cafe
31103 Mission Blvd, Hayward
(510) 489-7030
Linda Showalter
Amy's Grill & Cafe is a hidden gem for breakfast in Hayward. I’m a fan of chefs who put their own spin on dishes, and this place does just that. I tried the Monster Burrito, which was a bit smaller than expected, but had a unique style and decent taste. The all meat omelet, which came with hash browns and toast, was amazing and I finished every bite. It was served with a side order of a single pancake, which was a delightful addition. The food was incredibly hot and fresh, which made the experience even better. Despite only having two employees—one in the kitchen and one serving—the service was impressive. They were attentive, frequently checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. The cafe may be small, but it has a charming ambiance, and the option for outdoor dining is a nice touch. Though the wait for a table can be a bit lengthy during busy times, the food is worth it. We tried several specialty omelets, all of which were delicious, but the California avocado Florentine eggs stood out as my favorite. The milkshake was so good we decided to save the waffles for our next visit. This spot is definitely a must-try, and I highly recommend it. Next time, I'll be sampling the lunch menu for sure!
Fifth Wheel Food
898 San Leandro Blvd, San Leandro
(510) 635-7538
Roxana Majeed
The Fifth Wheel is a hidden gem in Hayward that blew me away with its exceptional breakfast. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared with perfectly balanced flavors. The breakfast menu offers a great variety, showcasing high-quality ingredients. Whether you’re craving a classic dish or something more creative, like the unique pineapple sausage, there's something for everyone. The cozy and welcoming atmosphere makes it the perfect spot to kick off your day. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the Bay Area! The French toast was delightful, and my friend’s spicy dish was a hit, though I tend to avoid spice. The entire experience was seamless—orders were taken and served quickly, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The pancakes were excellent, just as I remember from visiting years ago when I lived in San Leandro. This tiny spot, with its four tables and nine counter stools, truly offers an incredible breakfast experience. Sign in, wait outside, and enjoy when your name is called. Since it’s been around since 1978, I’m confident it will continue to thrive.
Rosy's Cafe
22616 Vermont St, Hayward
(510) 258-3880
Adolfo Lastinger
Rosy's Cafe is a wonderful place! The coffee is delicious, the place is clean, and the atmosphere is delightful. Everyone there is very nice, and the employees are respectful and friendly. I tried a slice of bread recommended by the cashier, and it was DELICIOUS! I'm definitely going back. My friend Slippŕy Boxlicker needed a ride back to Hayward from Napa, and I agreed, but only if she treated me to lunch. She suggested we go to Rosy's Cafe, and I'm so glad she did. The Mexican food was authentic and fresh, and the service was excellent. The special salsa in the clear glass bottle is a must-try; it’s freshly made every day and complements the meals perfectly. My favorite dish is the Mexican HoBo (Chilaquiles) with Chile Verde. I've been to Rosy's a couple of times, and each visit has been excellent. The scrambles are also highly recommended. It's a nice little breakfast place with reasonable prices, especially considering how expensive everything is these days. The service is fast, and the overall atmosphere is great. A well-deserved 5 stars ☆☆☆☆☆.
Eon Coffee
24970 Hesperian Blvd #2440, Hayward
(510) 264-0507
Lisa Costa
I've been to Eon Coffee a couple of times for breakfast, and overall, the experience was quite pleasant. The standout aspect for me was the polite and efficient staff who made sure orders were taken quickly. The place has a clean and quiet atmosphere, perfect for having meetings or just enjoying a calm morning. There's plenty of parking, which makes it very convenient, and it's both wheelchair accessible and kid-friendly. While the pastries and bagels might not be the highlight, the coffee was fine, and that's the main reason I'll keep returning. Although there was a minor oversight with the coffee beans I was after, it's not a deal-breaker as the overall experience was satisfactory. Eon Coffee is a nice spot to grab a quick breakfast and coffee in a peaceful setting.
Hill's Coffee Shop
21458 Foothill Blvd, Hayward
(510) 733-0191
Chelsea Buck
I'm always on the lookout for good breakfast spots, and Hill's Coffee Shop has quickly become one of my favorites. I tried their corned beef hash with two eggs over medium, sourdough toast, and a cup of coffee. The meal was satisfying, and to my delight, it all came to just under $20 with a tip. The corned beef wasn't overly oily, and the eggs were perfectly cooked with no runny whites. The server even brought out hot sauce without me asking, which was a nice touch. The service was good, and while the place was kinda clean, it wasn't a concern for me. What matters is that it's one of the last classic breakfast and lunch diners in the Castro Valley-Hayward area, especially with both Val's and Dell Cafe now closed. Hill's offers a good basic menu, tasty food, and reasonable prices, making it a spot I'll definitely visit again. Plus, the eggs were especially delicious on my latest visit—just perfect for starting the day. The staff adds a special touch to your breakfast experience, and this place always leaves me happy.
Frodo Joe's Coffee & Tea
17665 Hesperian Blvd, San Lorenzo
(510) 481-1844
Ricardo Miranda
Frodo Joe's Coffee & Tea is a fantastic spot for breakfast in Hayward. The savory crepes are simply delicious. I had the chicken cashew feta crepe, and it exceeded my expectations with its beautiful combination of flavors, especially the house pesto sauce, which I usually don’t prefer, but this one was incredible. The little side of veggies paired nicely, and my tropical smoothie perfectly hit the spot. My partner tried the chicken apple sausage wrap, which was equally tasty, paired with a pasta salad. We both loved everything we tried. The place is small, so it can get a bit loud when it’s busy, but it’s definitely worth checking out. Finding a gluten-free crepe that’s not only edible but deliciously stuffed with savory ingredients is amazing. I enjoyed it so much that we ended up visiting twice during our short trip. I had the chicken apple sausage crepe again because it was that good, loaded with sausage, mushrooms, peppers, and cheese. I also tried a raspberry crepe, which, while not my favorite, was still enjoyable. My husband had a bacon crepe that was delicious, though I can't recall its exact name. They also offer a great coffee boba drink that you can customize to your liking, which was a delightful surprise. I discovered this gem on Google and am thrilled that I did. The owner, Emily, and her staff are incredibly kind and pleasant. I tried the strawberry and banana crepe with raspberry sauce, and it was delicious. I also went back for the Frodo Joe’s Delight salad, fresh and tasty, and the Frodo Favorite Latte that did not disappoint. This place is conveniently located near where I’m staying, so I’ll definitely be a repeat customer. We stopped by for brunch after a graduation ceremony and ordered a sweet crepe (chocolate banana), a savory crepe (veggie pesto), a smoked tuna sandwich, a mocha, and a strawberry smoothie. Everything was fantastic. We always love the food here.
Anna's Coffee Shop
444 Jackson St, Hayward
(510) 582-9185
Loic Ayala
I love exploring the diners and restaurants in southern Alameda County, and Anna's Coffee Shop is a gem I was happy to discover. The place is charming from the outside with its Scandinavian-style eave and ample parking. Inside, it has a cozy vibe with older brown booths and tables that give off a retro feel. I tried Alan's omelette without mushrooms, and it was quite satisfying. The eggs were perfectly cooked, and I appreciated the melted cheese on top. Their homemade salsa added a nice touch to the omelette. The home fries were delightful, with a creamy interior and a slightly crumbly crust. There are plenty of appealing options on the menu, including chilaquiles and machaca that I am eager to try. They offer a mix of American and Mexican dishes, and I particularly enjoyed the eggs with cactus, rice, beans, and tortillas. The waffles, apple sausage, French toast, and veggie burritos are also worth mentioning. The portions are generous, and the country-fried potatoes are spiced and crisped to perfection. Anna's has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The staff is attentive, and I've always received my order hot and fresh. It's a great spot for a nostalgic dining experience reminiscent of the 70s. Although they don't open until 7:00, which means I miss out on certain specials, the prices are reasonable, and it's worth the visit. On a trip out of San Francisco, this was the perfect place to grab a hearty meal before hitting the road. The service was prompt, with plenty of coffee refills, and there was minimal wait time. It's the kind of spot you might not find unless someone brings you along, and I'm glad I can be that person for someone else. The food is delicious, and I can't wait to return when I'm back in the Bay Area.
Atlas Coffee & Sandwiches
1075 B St, Hayward
(510) 630-6868
Shelly Ankney
Atlas Coffee & Sandwiches in Hayward offers a cozy atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating, and it's conveniently located by a movie theater and other shops. I visited for breakfast on a Monday morning and ordered crepes at the counter, which were then brought to my table. The crepes were delicious—I tried both the vegetarian crepe and the Nutella with bananas and strawberries. I'm looking forward to trying their banh mi sandwiches next. The quality and value of the food blew me away. The pho was so good I had to ask Vi for the secret, which she generously shared. The Vietnamese coffee was exceptional; I ended up ordering a second because my wife loved it so much. This place is amazing in every way. I plan to return many more times, as the hosts are gracious and the food is excellent, each dish prepared with care and quality. On a Friday afternoon, while waiting for my nail technician to be done, I ordered a Thai iced tea and a grilled chicken banh mi. It was by far the best banh mi I've had in a long time! The bread was extremely fresh, the service was amazing, and the prices were very good too. Five stars!
Doug's Place
20871 Redwood Rd, Castro Valley
(510) 538-9155
Zabrina Gonzalez
I've been going to Doug's Place for years, and they always treat you like family. The staff is consistently nice and welcoming, which makes for a pleasant atmosphere. This was my first time seeing curly fries on the menu, and they were delicious. The place has a cool little bar spot with food inside, and it was pretty damn good. I especially loved the fish taco and the fried Oreos – such a treat! It's a great spot for brunch with lots of food options. The hash browns were amazing, and the hot chocolate was delightful. The French toast presentation was appealing, and it tasted good too. A word of advice: go early because it can get busy, and as far as I know, they don't take reservations for small groups. You might need to stand in line to get a table, but the service is fast once you're seated. We had a big table for six people, and despite the wait, the experience was worth it. Doug's Place is a little hole in the wall in a busy shopping plaza in Castro Valley, and it has its charm. While there might be a bit of a wait and some hustle and bustle, I find the overall experience enjoyable, and the food is pretty decent. I love how they make you feel at home, and that's why I keep coming back.
Denica's Real Food Kitchen
2723 Castro Valley Blvd #5411, Castro Valley
(510) 537-1100
Elsa Beristain
Denica's Real Food Kitchen is a fantastic spot for breakfast in Hayward. From the moment I arrived, I appreciated the ease of parking right behind the restaurant. The vibe inside feels like a comforting mix of a Nation's and Denny's, but with its own charming twist. Ordering at the counter was simple, and it was a nice touch to enjoy complimentary chips and salsa while waiting, which was just about ten minutes. The staff was friendly, and the food didn't disappoint. The Denica's scramble and eggs Benedict were cooked just right, not overly greasy. I also took home some Ube pancakes, and having the syrup on the side was a great idea to keep them from getting soggy. Plus, their snickerdoodle cookies were soft and chewy, just the way I prefer them. The brunch menu has some real gems. The Loco Moco was a standout with its flavorful gravy and perfectly cooked meat patty. The ambiance was inviting, with clean surroundings and charming decor. It's clear why this local gem is a favorite among families. The bakery is worth a peek too. If you're looking for a solid breakfast spot, Denica's is definitely worth a visit.
The Original Mels Diner
15011 Hesperian Blvd, San Leandro
(510) 878-1144
Connor Baker
The Original Mels Diner in Hayward is a fantastic spot for breakfast. The food is amazing, with portions that are really generous. The prices are reasonable, making it a great value. Our server was attentive and checked in just the right amount. The highlight for me is definitely the retro vibe and decor of the diner, which adds a fun, nostalgic charm to the experience. I tried the Hangover, which came with two huge biscuits, sausage patties, bacon, sausage gravy, and scrambled eggs. It was a hearty meal that hit the spot. My friend ordered the meal deal for $18, which included chicken steak, eggs, and hash browns. While it's a bit pricey, the portion size was satisfying, and the taste met expectations. Overall, Mels Diner is a wonderful place to bring the family for a delicious meal. The servers are friendly, and the food is consistently good. Definitely a recommended spot for a tasty breakfast!
IHOP
22222 Foothill Blvd, Hayward
(833) 548-4310
Mimi Parker
IHOP in Hayward is a fantastic spot for breakfast. Every time my partner and I visit, we're met with speedy seating and courteous service. Our go-to order includes an omelette with hash browns and another with custom pancakes, which we find to be a great deal. The location is conveniently close, just a short walk from our hotel. Despite a full dining room, we've never waited more than 10 minutes to be seated. The staff is friendly, and our waitress is always attentive and pleasant. Our food arrives promptly and is consistently satisfying, with delicious options like French toast, silver dollar pancakes, bacon, eggs, and sausage. This IHOP location is hands down one of our favorite dining experiences.
Country Waffles

(510) 429-9100
Uzo Heitz
Country Waffles is an absolute gem for breakfast in Hayward! I ordered a half turkey sandwich, tortilla soup, and a caramel macchiato latte. My mom got the same, but with a pink drink, and we both loved our meals. The food was delicious, and the drinks were awesome. The atmosphere is cozy, and the staff is incredibly friendly, making you feel right at home. It has an old-fashioned diner vibe that I really enjoy. The prices are great too, which is a rare find. Just remember, they close at 2 p.m., so get there early! It's a family favorite of ours, with consistently tasty food and warm service. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great breakfast or lunch spot!
Black Bear Diner Hayward

(510) 670-9100
Brooke Muñoz
We went to Black Bear Diner in Hayward for breakfast, and it was a great experience overall. The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere, and the staff is friendly. The quality of the food impressed me, especially because they use fresh ingredients. Although we faced a small hiccup with our order, the staff was quick to address it. Our server made sure we had everything we needed, like coffee refills and syrup for the pancakes. The restaurant wasn’t too busy, which meant we didn't have to wait long for our meals. The portion sizes were generous, and everything tasted really good, from the crispy bacon to the fluffy pancakes. Although the orange juice was strong, it was still refreshing. Even though there was a slight delay with one part of our meal, the staff handled it professionally, and it didn’t overshadow the overall positive experience. I would recommend Black Bear Diner in Hayward if you're looking for a solid breakfast spot with good food and a friendly atmosphere. It’s a nice place to start your day, and I look forward to returning.
Panera Bread
24133 Southland Dr, Hayward
(510) 732-0279
David Alvarado
Panera Bread in Hayward is my go-to spot for breakfast and more. The staff is consistently friendly and attentive, making each visit a pleasant experience. I especially appreciate Luis and Bill, who always seem to be around to help whenever needed. The place is clean, and they're always tidying up tables and the service area, which adds to the welcoming atmosphere. The food is fresh, and I love how they prepare hot items like quiches in smaller batches, ensuring that everything tastes great. The strawberry salad is a favorite, and the Beverage Program is a fantastic deal for coffee lovers like me. Gabriela, one of the team members, always greets me with a smile and often knows my order before I even have to say it. This location is also a perfect spot for meetings or studying, thanks to the consistently excellent service and inviting environment. I genuinely look forward to my visits here!
