Vivilore

Vivilore is a truly unique spot for breakfast in Independence. The courtyard where we sat was beautiful, adding a special touch to our meal. The coconut shrimp was fabulous, and although we had a few flies, our attentive waiter, Jeremy, brought out a fan that helped a lot. This place is perfect for those seeking a different and romantic dining experience. It's a hidden gem with a delightful outdoor patio that I'd love to see at night. Not only is the food impressive, but there's also an antique and art shop upstairs with candles and other interesting items—highly recommend checking it out. I went to celebrate my mom’s 68th birthday, and while there were some things that could improve, like the pork chop meal that was a bit tough and some quick explanations from the waitress, the overall atmosphere and unique offerings make it worth visiting. Though we missed out on a birthday dessert, the stunning outdoor patio creates a cozy ambiance perfect for any special occasion. The staff was helpful and the service enhanced our experience. I look forward to coming back, especially to enjoy the setting with some wine on a nice day. It's definitely a gorgeous location that's worth experiencing for the ambiance and key appetizers.

I absolutely love First Watch for breakfast in Independence! My wife and I are weekly regulars, and we always have a fantastic experience. The staff greets us with a smile and often knows our usual order, which adds a welcoming touch to our visits. The menu offers a great variety for both breakfast and lunch, and it's always worth checking out the specials for something new and delicious. I can always count on the food being fresh and tasty. My Monterrey club was delicious, and the seasoned side potatoes were spot on. My husband enjoyed his omelet, the million dollar potatoes, and the morning meditation—all equally satisfying. Even when we arrived just 20 minutes before closing, the service was friendly, and the food was top-notch, which was truly impressive! Occasionally, it takes a little while to get drink refills, and the ladies' room could use some attention, but these are minor issues in the grand scheme of things. The parking lot is convenient, so that's a bonus. Overall, our experiences have been consistently excellent, and we plan on being regulars for years to come. Highly recommend First Watch to anyone looking for a quality breakfast or lunch experience! You can't go wrong with this choice.

During my visit to Independence, I stumbled upon The Lunch Box, a cozy little spot that truly impressed me. As a burger enthusiast, I couldn't resist trying their double cheeseburger, and it was massive! My wife opted for the steak quesadilla, and the combination of peppers and onions was so flavorful it left us both speechless. While waiting, we were treated to fresh chips that were seasoned perfectly, and they paired excellently with the fresh salsa. Although they don't have a soda fountain, the bottled drinks didn't bother us because the food quality more than made up for it. The prices here are incredibly reasonable, making it a fantastic value for the quality of food you receive. We also tried the tamales and steak street taco from their Noland Road drive-thru, and the flavors were just as amazing. The staff was warm and welcoming—something that seems rare these days. This place is a bit of a hidden gem with the best street tacos and salsa in town. They even offer $1 street tacos on Wednesdays, which is a steal. The only downside is the limited parking and small size of the building, but it's clear they pour their heart into every dish they serve. I can't wait to return!
Dave's Bakery & Deli

If there's one certain thing about me, it's sandwiches. This local breakfast and lunch counter in the heart of downtown Independence is just what any morning or midday trip needs. You walk in, and it's a classic lunch counter with the glass pie display case, the old-school menu board, and the bartop tables and chairs lining the dining room. I'm really happy I came in and grabbed the Turkey Club with a side of fries. It's always time for a sandwich. About as perfect as a local bakery and deli can be. Wonderful food, quick service, and the atmosphere to match. If you're ever stopping off in Independence, be sure to visit this family-owned shop. Looking to grab lunch for a friend and a quick search showed Dave's Bakery and Deli with some nice reviews. I got a roast beef sandwich and it was really good. Nice amount of meat and nice fixings. I'll definitely stop again when in the area. This place has awesome pastries! They have hot breakfast and lunch too. Prices were very reasonable. Definitely recommend!

As my teenage daughter would say, "It's a vibe, Mom..." Now, I even have my own coffee card! Main Street Coffee House has quickly become our favorite spot to grab the best coffee and enjoy some great conversation. The young ladies working there are amazing! It was our first visit, and the service was fantastic. Both the coffee and food were delicious. The baristas are the friendliest, answering all my questions and even customizing my drink to be less sweet. I tried a 16oz Gingerbread latte called Gumdrop Buttons and they kindly added more coffee when I was almost finished, which was super accommodating. Although I was in line for the property tax office, this place made the wait worthwhile. They still serve the best oat milk chai latte in Kansas City. It's our go-to spot whenever we're in the area. The pastries are consistently great and the atmosphere is always quiet and chill, perfect for reading, meeting up with a friend, or catching up on work with a laptop. Cannot say enough great things about this place!

I had a delightful breakfast experience at The Big Biscuit in Independence. The atmosphere was welcoming and the staff, especially our server Misty, was attentive and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed. I was impressed by the variety on the menu, and the food did not disappoint. The pumpkin pancakes were outstanding and definitely a highlight—perfectly spiced and fluffy. I also enjoyed their Eggs Benedict country style, with impressive breakfast potatoes that were flavorful and cooked just right. Despite a few flies buzzing around, which seemed to come from the doors, the overall experience was enjoyable. The food was served hot, portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable. Everyone around seemed to enjoy their meals as much as we did, adding to the lively and pleasant atmosphere. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to try more items on their menu.
Ranchero's Mexican Food

I've been a fan of Ranchero's Mexican Food for about 5 years, and they never disappoint. The service is amazing, and everyone speaks English well. The atmosphere is friendly and authentically Mexican. You don't have to wait long for your food, as they prepare it right in front of you, which is awesome. There's a Taco Bell across the road, but I think you get better value here. It’s the best counter-serve Mexican food I’ve had in ages! I ordered 3 tacos and almost couldn’t finish them because of the generous portion sizes and flavor. The salsa bar is fantastic, with at least four types of salsa, pickled veggies, and limes. This has become my new go-to spot for Mexican food. Every time I visit town and head to my son's place in Blue Springs from the airport, I make sure to stop by for a Texano burrito. I seriously crave this burrito when I'm away. The service is consistently fast, accurate, and super friendly. If you're a fan of unique flavors, try the hot cheeto burrito—it's my favorite! The hot cheeto steak fries were alright, though they forgot the hot cheetos that time! My wife enjoyed the bean tostada and said she'd definitely get it again. The churros were freshly cooked, but we wished for a dipping sauce. We also got two horchatas, and they were delicious. I definitely recommend trying this restaurant. Follow me for more honest reviews! 🙃

I had a great time at A Little BBQ Joint for breakfast in Independence. The decor is charming with its collection of cars, trucks, and license plates, making it a fun place to look around. Despite some smoke from the kitchen, the AC kept the place comfortable. The sweet tea was spot on, and the ribs were absolutely perfect—fall-apart, juicy, and delicious. The mac and cheese were just right, with a great cheesy flavor without being overly gooey. While the food took a bit to arrive, it was worth the wait. The pulled pork and burnt ends were tasty, and even though the beans and corn could have been warmer, they were still good. Our waitress was incredibly sweet and personable, really adding to the positive experience. She made us feel welcome and her service was top-notch, deserving of a big tip. The place has a cool vibe with live music and lots of antiques and collectibles to admire. It’s a super cool restaurant, and I have to say, it’s some of the best BBQ I've ever had. My son brought me here, and it stood out as the best BBQ experience. Overall, great food, good service, and a unique atmosphere make this joint a winner.

Chick-fil-A has always been a reliable spot for a tasty meal, and my breakfast experience there was no different. I ordered the Cobb salad and had some special requests which were fulfilled perfectly. My husband, however, had a minor hiccup when the cashier forgot to ask if he needed sauce, which he had to go back for. The incident with the payment for the woman in front of him was unfortunate, as the cashier's response seemed unfriendly and unwelcoming, which isn’t what I expect from Chick-fil-A. Despite this, the food quality remains consistently good, and the staff is generally friendly. The food portions, though, seem to be getting smaller. My child’s 5-piece nugget meal was surprisingly tiny, which felt like a poor value for the cost. On a positive note, the restaurant maintains a kid-friendly atmosphere with a nice playroom, making it a good place for families. I do wish they would bring back their cole slaw. There was an unfortunate incident with a moldy sandwich, but the response from the manager was a bit disappointing, as the compensation didn’t quite match the inconvenience. Overall, the food and service are usually solid, and it’s comforting that the meals are consistently prepared. While there are a few areas that need improvement, Chick-fil-A continues to be a place we visit occasionally for a special treat.
Café Verona

I found Café Verona to be a delightful spot for breakfast. The restaurant has a charming atmosphere with reasonable prices and good portions. My friend enjoyed her dish, and even though I wasn't a fan of mine, I appreciated the handmade gnocchi, which was firm but tasty. We were surprised that the salad wasn't included, but it wasn't a big deal. The ability to substitute any pasta for noodles and the availability of three keto-friendly dishes was a pleasant surprise, especially in an Italian restaurant. It's a rare gem for those on a keto diet. The ambiance of the courtyard was inviting, and the service was exceptional. Our server was wonderful and made us feel welcome. I tried the soup of the day, a delicious tomato basil, which was a highlight. Although the keto pesto zoodles were a bit lacking in flavor and a bit soupy, the other keto dish was packed with sundried tomatoes, one of my favorites, though it also could have used a bit more flavor. Later, we visited Café Verona to celebrate my wife's birthday. We arrived around 8 pm, and the cozy atmosphere immediately made us feel at home. We started with a garlic and cheese flatbread, which was incredible. My Caesar salad, possibly with in-house made croutons, was top-notch. For our main dishes, I had spaghetti Bolognese, and my wife had gnocchi Verona, both of which we enjoyed thoroughly. Although we were too full to try dessert, it's something to look forward to next time. Our meal came to $54, which I found reasonable. I'm thrilled to have discovered a new Italian place and definitely plan on returning. I recommend giving Café Verona a try.

Rose Cafe is a wonderful diner! The people are beautiful, and the food is great. I enjoyed a breakfast of two eggs, hash browns, and swapped toast for a pancake. Heads up—the pancakes are huge, so be careful how many you order. The coffee was also delicious, making the whole experience lovely. I've been coming here since it was Rosie's, and while the name has changed to Rose Cafe, the food remains consistently good. However, a small hiccup occurred with the extra egg pricing. The menu states 99 cents for an extra egg, but I was charged $2.99 for two. Despite confirming with my server that it could be adjusted, it wasn't reflected on my bill. I still left a tip, but it was a bit frustrating. A friend who joined me had an item on the menu that was unavailable, so he ordered something else. Oddly, our bills were the same amount, which was confusing. Despite these minor issues, the food was delicious and cooked exactly as ordered. The service was friendly and efficient. Rose Cafe is a great breakfast spot with good food, portions, service, and prices.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store offers a warm and cozy atmosphere that feels like home. It's the kind of friendly place everyone is looking for. The breakfast is solid, with pancakes and biscuits that I truly enjoy. My husband is a fan of their bacon and hash brown casserole. On the downside, I had some issues with my eggs being consistently runny, and there were a few hiccups with the server's attentiveness. The food was a bit cold and didn't always look the best in the packaging. However, I appreciate the country-style cooking, even if it's on the greasy side. I also found a lovely quilt with shams in the store, and I'm impressed with its 100% cotton quality. Parking can be a bit tricky for those with handicaps due to the extra COVID pickup spots, which seem unnecessary now. Overall, it's a nice breakfast spot, and I might give it another try in the future.

I had a great experience at Perkins American Food Co. for breakfast in Independence. I made a mistake with my online order, selecting the wrong date for my Birthday cheesecake pickup. But when I called them, they quickly updated my order. The cheesecake was fantastic and offered the best price in my area. It had been a while since I last ate at Perkins, but the food was as tasty and filling as I remembered. The atmosphere was comforting, and I had a very nice waitress. There was no wait to be seated, which was a plus. I'm still raving about their fish with rice pilaf and broccoli and cheese—it was amazing! My family and I dined in last Tuesday, and we’re already planning to return tonight. My waitress, Megan, was wonderful—very helpful and responsive. Tina also jumped in to help, which was great teamwork. We also attended their Trunk or Treat event, which was enjoyable. Stephanie is another standout; we just love her! As a bonus, all three of my kids ate for free on Tuesday night, thanks to their promotion and a ticket we received from the Trunk or Treat. We ended the meal with five pieces of pie and took a big lemon meringue pie home. Today, I got breakfast and everything was fine. My only issue was with the biscuits and gravy—I didn't realize two biscuits with a small cup of gravy wouldn't be enough. I ended up with leftovers because of insufficient gravy. The drinks were $3.50, which felt a bit pricey, but the waitress was great. They played 70s/80s soul music, which was different for the area but a nice change from the usual pop music. Overall, a very satisfying experience at Perkins!

I hadn't eaten at Panera Bread for quite a while, but my daughter wanted to give it a try for breakfast, so I decided to join her. When we arrived, our online order was ready for pickup, which was convenient. The food was delicious and fresh, which was a plus. However, there were a few mishaps with our order. The sandwiches were mixed up, with the tops and bottoms switched between the ciabatta and croissant. We ordered double bacon but only got a couple of half pieces, and the sandwiches were only lukewarm. Additionally, I ordered two sausage cinnascrambles but ended up with just a cinnamon roll and egg and cheese, without the sausage I paid for. While the mix-ups were frustrating, the overall experience was still positive because of the taste and freshness of the food. I just hope the attention to detail improves.

I visited Los Amigos Restaurant for breakfast and had a wonderful experience overall. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with the delightful aroma of their dishes and the staff’s friendly smiles. Even though I haven’t had a sit-down meal yet, I've swung by during work and noticed their focus on ensuring customers are happy with their orders. Their tamales are exceptional, and though I haven’t tried the fried chicken yet, it looked absolutely mouthwatering. They seem to do a lot of takeout, which speaks volumes about the quality and popularity of their food. I’m definitely planning to return for a proper meal. The positive atmosphere and welcoming service make it a place I’m eager to explore further.

California Taco Shop is an amazing place to eat! I work nearby and eat here at least once a week. I absolutely love their potato fries with birria meat, even with the upcharge. I've tried various Mexican restaurants around Jackson County, and this place stands out with their generous portions, great prices, and delicious food. They’ve always been accommodating with my special requests, and their staff is incredibly kind and sweet. Sure, sometimes the food takes a little longer, but it's always fresh, and that's worth the wait. I highly recommend their chimichangas and specialty burritos—they're fantastic. While the dine-in experience is a bit quiet, it’s perfect for takeout or using the drive-thru. The birria quesadillas are messy but in the best way, and the breakfast burritos are the best I've had in the area—they're hefty and tasty. The food and service are consistently amazing. The portion sizes are huge, everything is cooked to order, and the prices can't be beat. I even drive over 20 minutes to Independence just for the bacon and chicken fries. My go-to, the Chorizo con huevos, is excellent, and the cabeza taco is perfectly crispy and delicious. I'll definitely be back!

During my stay at My Place Hotel-Kansas City/Independence, MO, I was genuinely impressed by several aspects of the experience. The location is fantastic, offering easy access to local attractions like the Chiefs stadium and downtown, as well as a variety of nearby restaurants and activities. This made it an ideal spot for exploring the area. The check-in process was smooth and the customer service throughout my stay was excellent, with the staff being attentive and helpful. The exterior of the building is well-maintained, and the design is both pleasing and inviting, setting a positive first impression. While there were a few minor issues during my stay, such as the need for some repairs in the room and the elevator being out of service, these did not significantly detract from the overall experience. The staff was responsive to any concerns, and I appreciated their efforts to address them. Despite a couple of cleanliness concerns, which I believe are not regular occurrences based on my previous stays, the room was comfortable and met our needs for the duration of our visit. It's also worth noting that the hotel is pet-friendly, which is a great option for travelers with pets. Overall, I had an enjoyable stay at My Place Hotel, and I would consider returning in the future. It provides good value for its location and amenities, and the staff's dedication to ensuring a positive guest experience is evident.
