Chalu Burger

Stopping by Chalu Burger for breakfast was a nostalgic experience for me. I remember visiting this spot a few times as a kid, but this visit felt like my first real impression of it as an adult. While I know some locals might not agree, the tacos didn't quite blow me away, though the menudo was a delightful surprise. The frijoles in the wines a la Mexicana were a bit on the skimpy side, and the barbacoa didn't stand out as much as I hoped. I had heard a lot about the tortillas, but they weren't as fresh as expected. However, the menudo was definitely the star, bursting with flavor. What really sets Chalu Burger apart is the wonderful service. From the warm lady at the counter to the charming old-school ambiance, it's a place where you feel welcome. I would love to come back and try some other menu items. The small shop, intriguing as it's connected to a tire shop, offers a double burger with cheese, ham, bacon, and avocado, accompanied by a side of fries for just $9.00. You even get a whole jalapeño on the side, which is a unique touch. However, the burger patties didn't quite meet my expectations. They reminded me more of cafeteria burgers, both in taste and texture, rather than the delicious homemade ones I was anticipating. Despite this, I’m eager to return for another go at their tacos or other offerings. With great food, excellent service, and a friendly atmosphere, this place serves some of the best homemade food in South Texas.

Was in town on business and heard Rudy's "Country Store" and Bar-B-Q was the place to go for breakfast in Laredo. It did not disappoint! The food was amazing. The brisket literally fell apart as I picked it up, and both the moist brisket and potato salad were flavorful and finger-licking good. Rosa was an exceptional host. She thoroughly explained each item on the menu, making sure we were all set for a pleasant dining experience. She was as pleasant when we left as when we arrived. A huge shoutout to her for making the experience memorable. I had shared with Rey, a manager, that my experiences at Rudy's had been inconsistent. Sometimes the food was amazing, and other times just good, which led me to visit only once a month. Rey listened carefully and assured me a great experience on my next visit. True to his word, he made sure all my food was up to standard and even offered samples to ensure I was happy before purchasing. This attention to detail and customer satisfaction has definitely made me a forever customer of Rudy's. While there was one occasion where the brisket sandwich for dinner was just fat and took a long time to be served, overall, Rudy's consistently delivers great food and service.

El Quinto Sol is a total gem! This vegetarian restaurant, healthy store, and bakery offer an impressive menu, mostly vegan, with plenty of delicious options. The concept of combining fresh, healthy food with a cozy atmosphere is fantastic. The service is top-notch, and the super friendly staff makes you feel right at home. Whether you're there for a meal, shopping for healthy groceries, or indulging in bakery treats, this place has it all. I tried vegan food for the first time, and it was an acquired taste, but not bad at all. Their lemonade was really good. The tamales and Mushroom Mozzarella Tacos were excellent. Service was quick and efficient. I used to go to this restaurant in Nuevo Laredo a long time ago, and everything tasted just as wonderful as I remember. I can't wait to go back and enjoy the Chile Rellenos with soy and enchiladas rojas. The nopalitos en chile roja and calabacitas were delicious, and both plates, plus two drinks, came out to 30 bucks.

Waking up at 4am due to a pressure washer wasn't ideal, but having breakfast at Whataburger in Laredo definitely made up for it. The service was incredible, with a doorman who made sure to say goodbye as I left—a nice touch that you don’t often see at fast food places. I tried the tea made with 100% cane sugar, and it really is the best I've ever had. The atmosphere was impressively clean, unlike any other fast food restaurant I've visited across the country. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. Although the girls attending weren't overly friendly and they couldn’t serve me inside due to water contamination, the overall experience was still good thanks to the super friendly service.

Shipley Do-Nuts

I've got to say, Shipley Do-Nuts in Laredo is a fantastic spot for breakfast. The doughnuts are absolutely delicious—always soft with consistent and tasty frosting. They have a vast array of flavors and presentations, and the prices are totally accessible. The customer service is usually superb, though there was one time when an employee seemed a bit annoyed when my mom asked to see a different donut option, but it wasn't a big deal since there were no other customers waiting. If you're craving something sweet, this is the place to go. I tried their strawberry/banana smoothie, but it was too sweet for my taste. It had a strange cotton candy flavor. On the other hand, their donuts never fail to impress me. They're always fresh, and it's a nice place to grab a bite in the morning. The only downside is the coffee. It could be a lot better, and I wasn't impressed with the iced coffee either—it had an off taste. Honestly, for coffee, I’d recommend heading to Dunkin. Also, the Kolaches aren't worth it—they're mostly bread with a small sausage, which was disappointing. But overall, Shipley Do-Nuts is a great spot for a delicious breakfast treat.

I was craving some good old ham and eggs this morning, so I decided to try El Querreque Grill after finding it on Google Maps. I ordered the scrambled ham and eggs with hash browns and toast. The portions were generous, and everything tasted great. The dish came with a small bowl of warmed red salsa, which was delicious on both the eggs and hash browns. Although I had some trouble communicating with a few of the wait staff, which I understand given the border-town location, I believe having more staff who speak a bit of English would improve the experience. Despite this, I will definitely go back for breakfast. Their breakfast menu offers a great selection, and during my two work trips to Laredo this year, I've enjoyed the super friendly staff and quick service. The food is always hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. El Querreque Grill will definitely be my go-to spot for breakfast or a quick meal when I’m in town.

I had a fantastic breakfast at Fonda Don Martin in Laredo. The restaurant has a great Mexican flavor and a nice environment, although it can get a bit crowded. It’s a popular spot, so be prepared to wait a little for a table, but it’s definitely worth it. The food was delicious and surprisingly affordable. I ordered the chilaquiles toluqueños and really enjoyed the mix of flavors. My friends also had positive things to say, mentioning the migas and the great orange juice. The staff mostly speaks Spanish, but that didn’t hinder our experience at all. It’s a cozy local place with both American and Mexican dishes. I’m always satisfied and love treating friends here to highlight one of the city’s gems. If you have some time to spare, I highly recommend visiting. The portions and flavors far exceed the price, making it a great value. I will definitely be returning to try more items on their menu.

Rainbow Bakery & Coffee Shop is a fantastic place for breakfast in Laredo. The food is genuinely great, especially if you're a fan of spicy dishes. The green chilaquiles hit the spot perfectly. I love that the aguas frescas are made to order, adding a refreshing touch to the meal. Just remember to bring cash, as it's the only form of payment they accept. The Barbacoa taco is a standout—absolutely delicious—and I've tried several other dishes like the ribs and milanesa, both of which I highly recommend. The prices are unbeatable, making it a great value. The service is excellent, especially if you're served by the guy who works there; he's very talkative and goes out of his way to ensure you have a good experience. The owner is a wonderful lady who adds to the welcoming atmosphere. Overall, this restaurant offers great taste and awesome service. Love this place! 🥰

The food at Yoly's Cafe is fantastic! I usually go for the guisado tacos, but I decided to try the chilaquiles this time, and they were delicious. The service is very kind, and the food is made fresh when you order. I tried three different tacos—the machacado and egg was awesome, the egg and chorizo was awesome, and while the guisado wasn't exactly what I expected, every restaurant has its own twist. It was my first visit, and I got a bit impatient with the wait for my tacos. However, once I realized they make everything fresh right then and there, I completely forgot about the time. It's all freshly prepared, not frozen, which makes a big difference. I highly recommend this place for breakfast with family. Great food and great service. It's a local family business that we love to support.

My wife and I came to Taco Palenque San Bernardo for breakfast, eager to try their breakfast tacos and a bowl of menudo for my wife. We had our picky grandson with us and didn’t order anything for him, assuming he wouldn’t eat. To our surprise, a server kindly brought over a plate of beans and flour tortillas for him, compliments of the house. He loved the tortillas, and I was amazed to see him enjoy them so much. A big thank you to the manager and the staff for their exceptional service and the delicious food. This place is truly a gem. As the original Taco Palenque location, they haven’t lost their touch over the years. The food is not only delicious but also incredibly fast and affordable. The salsa bar is a fantastic addition, along with the free self-serve chips. While the fajitas and bean and cheese tacos are excellent choices, I’d suggest skipping the pastor. If you’re in a hurry, the drive-through is a lifesaver. Their street tacos are awesome, and the service is top-notch. They truly went above and beyond. I even ordered five combo meals from the kids' section for my daughters and received five complimentary refried bean tacos. A heartfelt thank you to Elsa C and the team. This place is 100% recommended for anyone looking for great food and phenomenal customer service.

Great service and food as usual! I really liked that they left the coffee pitcher on our table this time—it's an excellent idea since my father and I drink a lot of coffee, so the waitress didn’t have to keep coming back every few minutes to refill our cups.

So good we went back two days in a row! Danny's Restaurant in Laredo offers a fantastic breakfast experience with a delightful Tex Mex twist. There are a couple of locations in the area, making it convenient. The service was excellent and everything was reasonably priced. As soon as I arrived, I was warmly greeted by three employees, making me feel right at home, even though I was dining alone. Every customer around me seemed content and enjoying their meals. The server was prompt, arriving as soon as I sat down, and my order was served in less than five minutes. I tried the enchiladas poblanas and they were amazing, especially if you enjoy mole. The rice and beans were delicious too. The cleanliness of the restroom was impressive, which is a rarity for public ones. The margaritas were hand-made and not from a pre-made mix, which was a pleasant surprise. Seated quickly and with attentive service, it's a great spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Their enchiladas plate strikes the perfect balance without overpowering the dish with cheese, unlike many other places. The portion sizes were just right for a satisfying meal, although some might find them a bit small. My only minor critique would be that the chips were a bit cold. Overall, Danny's is an excellent choice with great food and service. Five stars!

The enchiladas were my favorite, followed by the tacos, and then the flautas. Everything was delicious and such a great value. The staff was friendly, and the service was quick. I appreciated the seating area with lots of windows, giving it a pleasant, airy feel. If you're looking for a great taco in the middle of the night, this is the place to go. The salsas are delicious, and the service is fast and friendly. The atmosphere is inviting and clean. The service was decent and friendly, which makes me want to come back. I've been eating at the TA for decades and was sad to see the Country Pride go, but this IHOP is a nice replacement. I like the new setup and was happy to see familiar faces, like Alice, who is an awesome waitress. This was my first time eating here since the change from Country Pride, and it was not bad at all. The service remains good and the food looked just like the pictures, which was a nice touch. The cook did a wonderful job, and we left very pleased with our visit this morning.

The staff were friendly and seemed genuinely eager to help, which made the service feel warm and welcoming. They have a variety of options beyond just donuts, including coffee and sandwiches, which is great for mixing things up. While the temperature inside can be a bit chilly, it's a minor inconvenience compared to the quality of the food and service. If you're just grabbing and going, it's hardly an issue. The drive-thru has had a hiccup or two, but overall, it's a convenient feature for those in a hurry. Despite that, the quality of the food made the visit worthwhile. In terms of atmosphere, while it may not be the coziest place to sit and chat for hours, it's perfect for a quick, delicious breakfast stop. Her friendly demeanor really brightened my morning. The restaurant has been remodeled, so it has a fresh, updated look, which I appreciated. The staff was fast and friendly, ensuring I didn't have to wait long for my order. However, there were a few downsides. The air conditioning was not working, and the soda machine had limited flavor options, none of which had sugar. My chicken sandwich was not cooked properly and was greasy, which was unfortunate. On the plus side, my burger was okay. While dining inside, all food was served in bags, which made me feel like they preferred take-out over dine-in guests.
