A chauffeur service called Kingdom Transit Driver introduced me to Cox Cafe, a hidden gem on Poplar St in Macon, Georgia. This place is a must-try for anyone living in or passing through Macon. Their breakfast deals are fantastic, and the home-style cooking really hits the spot. It's tough nowadays to find a place that cooks with such love and warmth. The food, service, and atmosphere at Cox Cafe are top-notch. I find myself choosing Cox whenever I don’t feel like cooking breakfast. It's one of the best country breakfast spots I've visited, and I always feel welcomed by the friendly staff. Their fried chicken is incredible, and the fried cornbread sets them apart—it’s not a hoe cake, it’s fried cornbread! Although the cabbage could use a bit more flavor, the rest of the food is worth the visit. Cox Cafe might seem a bit sketchy at first glance, but once you try the food, you’ll understand why locals love it. It’s no-frills, just good food. Be sure to plan for breakfast or lunch since they close at 2 PM. I enjoyed the fried pork chops with mashed potatoes, gravy, and cream corn, while my wife had the cube steak in gravy with the same sides. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Macon. Great Southern dishes and a welcoming atmosphere make Cox Cafe a standout choice.

Growing up in Macon, Johnny V's has always felt like a second home to me, with their warm welcome and top-notch food. If you're looking for an affordable and delicious meal, you won't find a better spot in town. It's a place I gladly recommend to anyone who hasn't yet experienced it—your time and money spent here is well worth it, which is a rare find these days. We ended up at Johnny V's for a family gathering, drawn by its convenient location and glowing reviews. From the moment we arrived, the bustling parking lot and drive-through line spoke volumes. Despite the crowd, the staff promptly seated us, and the service was outstanding—a delightful mix of southern hospitality, charm, and humor. We opted for burgers and fries, which turned out to be among the best I've ever tasted. While the atmosphere may not be their standout feature, the quality of the food and service more than make up for it. For me, good customer service is key, and Johnny V's consistently delivers on that front. Every visit to Johnny V's reminds me why it's been a staple in my life. Whether for breakfast or lunch, their menu and service continue to impress, making the trip worthwhile every time. I can't recommend it enough for those seeking great food and genuine hospitality in Macon.

I had an overall good experience at Famous Mike's of Macon for breakfast. The place is filled with pictures from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, giving it a nostalgic vibe that I really enjoyed. The food has a special taste that I absolutely love. Their cheesy grits, eggs, and bacon are a must-try! I don’t mind that they serve them in simple 50 cent Wal-Mart bowls—as long as they never change that, I’m happy! The omelette isn't available after 11 am, and the parfait is no longer on the menu. While I felt the salmon could have been fresher, the overall experience was definitely worth going a little out of the way for this local gem. The Allman Brothers atmosphere in the dining room adds a unique touch. We learned breakfast stops at 11 am, but some breakfast meals are all day. Our order included grits, eggs, bacon, and biscuits. We opted for the cheese grits, as recommended, but they arrived cold. There was a mix-up with the warmer being off, but this didn’t dampen my appreciation for the place. I've been here twice, and both times were amazing. The service is top-notch, with everyone making you feel right at home. I tried the Gregg burger both visits, and it was consistently delicious. My coworkers tried different dishes, and they were equally satisfied. The fun art on the walls and the creative burger names spark great conversations. I highly recommend stopping by Famous Mike’s of Macon for a great experience and even better food. It’s now a new family tradition, and I’m so happy about it. Keep up the phenomenal work—y’all are awesome!

Home cooking that's worth the detour. Every dish was cooked perfectly, with nothing over or underdone. The coffee was great, and the salmon patties were the best I've had in over 50 years. I had the salmon patty breakfast platter with a biscuit, and it was wonderful. My wife had the bacon and egg platter with a pancake, which was also wonderful. That breakfast kept us satisfied from 10:00 a.m. until almost 3:00 p.m. The service was prompt, friendly, and efficient. The food is cooked to order, so give them time to do it right—it's well worth it. The building has a certain charm. It's not fine dining, but it's definitely fine food and fine people running the place. It feels just like going to your grandma's house and smelling her cooking. This place is for us! If you know, you know! Everything was great—best pancakes I've ever had! My husband said the salmon patties were almost as good as his own, only because his are "free," lol! The food was fresh, accurate, and delicious. I didn't think it could get any better, but the service was top tier. I wish this business much continued success and will definitely spread the word all the way from Augusta! Love, love, love! The food was fresh, just like making breakfast for your family at home. The service from the server was friendly, like family! The atmosphere has a definite family-friendly, hometown vibe. I will definitely be back; I saw a piece of fresh fried fish that was the size of the plate, and I have to try it! As a pescatarian, I ordered a salmon and egg biscuit and French toast. The food was delicious and fulfilling! I loved that they cooked the dishes to order! I didn't expect the salmon to be a croquette, but it was so good! Seasoned to perfection! I wish I had known because I would've ordered two! This will now be my go-to breakfast spot whenever I'm in town! Oh, and the lemonade was heavenly too!

Visiting H&H in Macon was a delightful experience that exceeded my expectations. I initially worried it might lean more on its famous backstory than on serving authentic southern soul food, but I was happily proven wrong. The catfish and sides were top-notch, and I only regret not trying their biscuits and gravy, which looked incredible. As someone who grew up loving biscuits, that was a missed opportunity! Being from Arizona and visiting family in Macon, this was our first time at H&H, and it was truly delicious. The Southern hospitality was genuine and overflowing. We enjoyed country fried steak, meatloaf, collard greens, fried green tomatoes, and banana pudding—all outstanding. Special thanks to Terrance for the superior service! The link to the Allman Brothers drew us here, and it didn’t disappoint. The service was great, and even though the fried chicken breast was a bit dry, the collards and fried okra were excellent. The soul egg rolls were tasty, though slightly different from what we expected. As an Allman Brothers Band fan, visiting H&H was on my bucket list, and it lived up to the hype. The warmth from the staff was genuine, with a welcoming atmosphere from the start. I indulged in fried green tomatoes, meatloaf, collards, and mac & cheese—amazing and in huge portions! I even had leftovers for later. I wholeheartedly recommend H&H to anyone visiting Macon; it's a must-visit spot. I've already told others about it while downtown and can’t wait to return on my next trip.

Dawson's Kitchen is an absolute gem in Macon, and I can't get enough of it! We stopped in by chance, trying to kill some time, and I'm so glad we did. The home-cooked food with a rotating menu keeps things exciting, and the extra offerings like fresh produce, pies, and cakes are a delightful bonus. We even discovered a chocolate pecan pie that was a revelation—I can't believe I'd never had it before! While a couple of dishes weren't quite to our taste, the collards and okra were fantastic, and the overall experience more than made up for it. The ambiance is charming, and the staff is incredibly friendly. I've found that their food is perfectly seasoned, not too salty like some other places. Plus, they support local farmers, which is a big win in my book. I've been back twice in a row, and I can't wait to try more. The fried chicken and beef tips with rice are top-notch, and you can't miss the mac and cheese. Don't leave without grabbing a dessert and some fresh veggies. This place is a staple in Macon for a reason, and I just wish it were closer to home. Keep up the great work, Dawson's Kitchen! We’ll definitely be returning to try everything.

I walked into Tommy’s Bakery & Café and immediately felt the warmth of a family-run place. It wasn’t very busy, which was nice. As I approached the counter, I was greeted with a friendly smile. I ordered a bagel with egg and cheese. The lady at the counter asked me to head to the register and double-checked my order—she thought I said bacon, but I corrected her to just egg and cheese. It was $8, and I appreciated how quick the service was since I was rushing to class. Unfortunately, when I got to class and opened my box, only a fried egg was in my bagel—no cheese. Despite this mix-up, the bagel was still delicious, though the cheese would have made it perfect. Even though the order wasn’t right, I enjoyed the taste and the atmosphere. It's clear they care about their customers. The fresh donuts and pastries at the counter looked tempting. Tommy’s Bakery & Café offers a genuine, welcoming experience. Mr. Tommy himself makes you feel like part of the family. Plus, the apple fritter, fresh out of the fryer, is a must-try. Despite occasional order mix-ups, the food is consistently good. I always look forward to stopping by whenever I’m passing through, thanks to the exceptional service and delicious treats. Highly recommend this gem for anyone in the area—just double-check your order!

I've always enjoyed breakfast at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, and there's a lot to love about it. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a friendly vibe that makes you feel right at home. The servers are generally attentive and helpful, adding to the pleasant experience. The breakfast menu offers a good variety, and while I miss the turkey meat options, the choices available still satisfy. They have introduced spicy chicken and Beyond Meat patties, although it's worth noting there's an extra charge for the Beyond Meat. The food, overall, is quite tasty. Grandma’s Sampler, though smaller than expected, is flavorful and well-prepared. The grits could be creamier, but the other breakfast items hit the spot. Despite a few hiccups, like the mashed potatoes not being warm enough and an occasional less-than-stellar service experience, the positive energy and professionalism of most staff members stand out. The atmosphere is one of Cracker Barrel’s strongest points, with its cozy, welcoming charm making it a great place to start the day. While there are areas for improvement, the overall experience remains enjoyable, and I'll definitely be back for more of that hearty breakfast and friendly service.

I initially called ahead for a to-go order and was pleased to find out they were dog-friendly with an outdoor patio. Upon arriving, I was warmly welcomed by Ashlee, who promptly set up a table for us outside. The menu was diverse, featuring plenty of healthy and gluten-free options, which was a huge plus for me. The service for my dogs was excellent as well, with a bowl of water provided and a special treat of a pancake and bacon just for them. The food was delicious, and the pancakes were a hit all around. The service was top-notch, and the cleanliness of the place stood out to me. I felt completely safe dining there solo, and the atmosphere was peaceful, especially at 7:45 am. This charming spot is now a must-stop for me whenever I'm passing through the area. A big thank you to Ashlee for making the experience memorable!

We were on the hunt for a new breakfast spot in Macon when we stumbled upon Mother's Breakfast & BBQ, and it turned out to be a great find. Although we arrived just as the lunch buffet was being set up, I was able to try the oxtails, rice, greens, and mac n cheese, and all of it was excellent! The portions were generous, and everything tasted like it was cooked from scratch, which is rare and refreshing. Good soul food places are hard to come by, and this one definitely stands out. One suggestion I have is for the cooks to consider offering a few more vegetarian vegetable sides. Other than that, the staff was friendly and accommodating, and it was clear they take pride in what they do. The breakfast options are among the best in Macon, and they even serve brunch on Saturdays until 3, which is a nice touch. During my last breakfast visit, I enjoyed the shrimp and grits with a side of scrambled eggs and pancakes. The meal was delicious! I've heard that their bacon is top-notch, and it certainly lived up to the hype. The pricing is reasonable, making it a great value for the quality of the food. Overall, Mother's Breakfast & BBQ offers good soul food and BBQ plates, and the experience is made even better by the warm and welcoming staff. While there are a few areas that could see improvement, the positives far outweigh them. I'm looking forward to my next visit and highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a hearty and satisfying meal in Macon.

We've been coming to Waffle House in Macon quite often, and it's always a pleasant experience. The staff knows us by name, which adds a nice personal touch to our visits. The coffee is good, and the food, though a bit greasy, is exactly what you'd expect in the best way possible. Despite being really busy, the team handled everything efficiently, and we got our food quickly. Service is great, and the food is cooked just right. I managed to be in and out in under 30 minutes, which is impressive. One thing I will say is that the place could use a good cleaning, especially the floors and kitchen area. But overall, this Waffle House location is awesome. It's clean otherwise, and when my order wasn't quite right, they fixed it immediately. I ordered a Texas patty melt and initially got a burger, but the cook made it right promptly. Despite the minor hiccup, this place continues to be one of my favorite spots for breakfast.

A big thank you to the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in Macon for allowing us to park our trailer overnight. Our overall experience was great, with friendly and attentive service that made us feel welcome. We decided to visit while staying at the nearby Hampton Inn, having had a positive experience at another location in Illinois. The building was pleasantly warm, unlike our previous visit elsewhere, which was a nice change. While the hash brown casserole dinner wasn’t exactly what I expected—the potatoes were a bit undercooked, and it had more greasy onion rings and cheese than I liked—the rest of the meal was enjoyable. My daughter loved her burger and steak fries, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his roast beef dinner. Plus, the biscuits were delicious. The supper may have had a small hiccup with the mashed potatoes having hard dark pieces, but the good definitely outweighed the bad. Prices were reasonable, and the portions were so generous that we couldn’t finish everything and happily took some home. Overall, this Cracker Barrel remains a favorite for its nice, friendly service, homey atmosphere, and consistently fresh food.

I also had grits and scrambled eggs, and they were excellent. My dad enjoyed his eggs over medium, saying they were cooked just right. The service was good, and we got our food fast. My experience at Waffle House in Macon was great. My waitress, Miracle, was fantastic. Although they were out of decaffeinated coffee when I arrived, she quickly brewed a fresh pot just for me. While my meal wasn’t exactly what I expected—my eggs were cold, the steak I ordered medium came well done and dry, and the hash browns were served with just one small slice of American cheese—the food still had good flavor. Miracle’s attentiveness more than made up for these small issues, and I really appreciated her effort. I absolutely love this Waffle House because the staff is so friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home. I always go for a waffle and a coffee, while my husband enjoys a full spread of eggs, hash browns, sausages, and waffles with his coffee. The atmosphere is lively and fun, with employees often singing and enjoying the music, making it an entertaining visit. The food was amazing and reminded me of cherished childhood memories. On another occasion, I stopped by to pick up a to-go plate, and everyone was incredibly nice and seemed genuinely happy to be there. I had one of the fastest service experiences ever at Waffle House in Macon. I enjoyed crispy hash browns with cheese steak, while my dining partner had perfectly cooked over easy eggs with sausage. Our meals were served within minutes, and we both agreed we'd be back for more. The atmosphere is typical for a Waffle House, but thankfully it wasn’t freezing inside, unlike another location we had to leave due to cold AC. I ordered the All-Star breakfast, which costs $11 with sales taxes included. I noticed a 20% fee is added to to-go orders, which is a bit confusing. Despite this, I was charged $15, which seemed like a tip was already included, yet they still asked for an additional tip. I ended up tipping $2, which is a bit more than I expected to spend, but the staff was welcoming and friendly. Overall, I've been to this Waffle House a few times, and the experience is consistently outstanding. The waitresses are quick to take orders, and the tables are either clean or being cleaned promptly. The food is always cooked thoroughly and perfectly satisfying. I'm giving four stars instead of five because they no longer serve blueberry waffles, but the plain ones are still amazing. It's a bit frustrating about the extra charges for takeout, but the excellent service and tasty food make up for it.
